Mendoza deputies propose reforms to Argentine Penal Code
National deputies from the Unión Cívica Radical (UCR) in Mendoza, Pamela Verasay and Lisandro Nieri, have introduced a legislative initiative to reform the Argentine Penal Code. The proposal focuses on increasing penalties for traffic-related incidents and addressing driving under the influence.
The project aims to establish driving under the influence of alcohol as a specific criminal offense rather than a mere administrative traffic violation. Additionally, the initiative seeks to increase sentences and disqualifications for serious negligence, such as excessive speeding or fleeing the scene of an accident, to ensure effective prison time. The proposal also includes measures to prevent criminal cases from expiring during the appeals process by ensuring that confirmatory sentences interrupt the statute of limitations.
