Mendoza government appoints former officials while pension rules spark controversy

The municipal government of Mendoza Province issued Decree 624/2026, signed by mayor Francisco Azcué and cabinet coordinator Pablo Ferreyra, to install Rodríguez as Secretary of Government, replacing Luciano Dell’Olio. The decree stipulates Rodríguez may serve only after suspending her national pension benefits, a condition not previously required; in contrast, sub‑secretary Roberto Niez continues to receive his pension while holding office.

A separate decree (No 1009) created two advisory posts in the Ministry of Government, Infrastructure and Territorial Development. One was filled by former radical legislator Flavia Dalmau, who had earlier received compensation following the 2024 closure of the Institute of Rural Development (IDR). Dalmau left the provincial legislature in April and was re‑appointed as an advisor on 22 May by Governor Alfredo Cornejo and Minister Natalio Mema, who said the appointment complies with labor law and poses no incompatibility.
