Mendoza government rejects judicial salary claim and issues new decree

The Mendoza provincial government has rejected a long-standing salary claim from judicial officials and issued a new salary increase by decree following failed collective bargaining negotiations.

Regarding the historical claim, the government denied a request from 32 members of the Association of Judicial Officials to pay retroactive differences stemming from a 2013 agreement known as ‘Clause C’. This clause was intended to address salary gaps between different judicial ranks. However, the Supreme Court of Justice of Mendoza ruled that the clause does not mandate automatic adjustments but must be addressed through collective bargaining. Consequently, the provincial Executive closed the administrative route for this claim, citing the court's ruling and issues of prescription.

Separately, Governor Alfredo Cornejo signed Decree 1969 to provide salary increases for judicial employees after negotiations with the judicial union ended without an agreement. The decree establishes two increments for the second half of 2026: 7% in September and 4% in November, based on June 2026 class assignments. The government stated the measure aims to ensure equitable treatment and maintain consistency with salary policies applied to other public administration sectors.
