Mendoza inaugurates biomass plant to convert pruning waste into energy

The province of Mendoza has inaugurated a new biomass plant at the El Borbollón Final Disposal Center to convert pruning waste and green residues into clean energy. This initiative is a public-private partnership involving the company Selfix and Holcim Geocycle.

Under the agreement, Selfix will operate a hydraulic shredder capable of processing approximately 1,000 tons of biomass per month, with a processing rate of 6 to 8 tons per hour. The resulting material will be purchased by Holcim Geocycle to serve as an alternative fuel in cement kilns, replacing fossil fuels.

Governor Alfredo Cornejo participated in the inauguration, emphasizing the importance of balancing economic development with environmental care. The project aims to promote a circular economy by ensuring proper treatment of organic waste, preventing accumulation during urban maintenance, and providing a sustainable energy source for industrial processes.
