Mendoza man sentenced to life for killing his father

Gustavo Fernando Olguín, 56, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his 84-year-old father, Hugo Olguín, in Guaymallén, Mendoza. The conviction followed an abbreviated trial in which Olguín confessed to the crime.

The incident occurred on August 19 of last year in Villa Nueva. Olguín initially attempted to mislead authorities by claiming his father had suffered a medical emergency and accidentally fallen, hitting his head. However, investigators found the crime scene inconsistent with an accident, noting bloodstains on walls and appliances, broken glass, and displaced furniture.

Evidence from neighboring security cameras and forensic analysis dismantled the suspect's account. Video footage showed Olguín entering and exiting the residence three times between 9:25 and 9:59 AM, even changing his clothing between visits. Forensic experts also identified genetic traces on a wooden stick at the scene. The investigation was led by Homicide Prosecutor Andrea Cecilia Lazo, and the sentence was ratified by Judge Ramiro Salinas.
