Mendoza Minister Tadeo García Zalazar backs teacher housing plan and defends provincial PASO

Mendoza’s Minister of Education, Culture, Childhood and the DGE, Tadeo García Zalazar, presented a bill to amend Law 9545, allowing the auction of unused state assets to finance housing operations for teachers, professors and school staff. The proposal would let the Dirección General de Escuelas (DGE) use proceeds from the sale of furniture, vehicles and other surplus items to back credit operations and guarantee urban‑development projects in partnership with the Instituto Provincial de la Vivienda (IPV). García Zalazar noted that the fund already holds more than 500 million pesos and that 12 additional properties are under evaluation for future auctions.

In the same session, García Zalazar reiterated his support for maintaining the provincial PASO (primary elections) while opposing a national move to eliminate them. He urged a separation between electoral debate and governmental management, saying the public’s focus is not on the 2027 electoral agenda but on other priorities. He emphasized that the provincial primary system has historically provided electoral options and should remain in place.
