Mendoza Province plans roundabouts on Rodríguez Peña industrial corridor
A consortium of local businesses, the Asociación de Empresarios Rodríguez Peña (Aderpe), has drafted a plan to modify the Rodríguez Peña corridor that runs through the industrial districts of Godoy Cruz, Maipú and Guaymallén. The proposal calls for replacing five traffic lights at the intersections of Independencia, 9 de Julio, Gabrielli, Maza and Ponce with roundabouts, and adding four additional roundabouts on alternative routes, to improve traffic flow for heavy cargo vehicles and accommodate the expected overload from the upcoming Acceso Este works.
The project, three years in development, is now under evaluation by the Dirección Provincial de Vialidad, which will provide suggestions before the plan is submitted to the provincial executive in October. Financing will be examined after the executive review. The existing fifth central lane will remain unchanged, while the roundabouts are expected to eliminate the barrier created by the traffic lights and facilitate vehicle returns.
