Mendoza Security Commission visits Juvenile Criminal Responsibility Directorate
The Bicameral Security Commission of the Mendoza Legislature conducted its first official activity following a period of inactivity by visiting the Dirección de Responsabilidad Penal Juvenil (DRPJ). Led by Deputy Germán Gómez and Senator Néstor Majul, the commission met with DRPJ Director Daniel Patiño to assess the facility's current operations and prepare for the implementation of Mendoza’s new Juvenile Criminal Regime.
The new legislation establishes criminal responsibility starting at age 14 and emphasizes a system focused on education, vocational training, and social reintegration. Legislators inspected infrastructure, security protocols, and human resources, noting that the transition to the new regime will require significant investments and a gradual adaptation process.
Currently, the facility houses 47 adolescents within an 85-place capacity and is staffed by 120 operators. Officials highlighted the institution's focus on rehabilitation, noting that residents participate in educational, sporting, and labor training programs designed to facilitate successful reintegration into society.
