Mendoza traffic reports show illegal parking as top violation
The Ministry of Security and Justice in Mendoza has released a two-month report on 'Modo Testigo', a citizen participation tool established by Law 9701. During this initial period, the official WhatsApp channel received 1,615 communications, of which 393 were validated as positive reports of traffic violations.
Illegal parking was the most frequent issue, accounting for 72% of all valid reports. Other identified violations included crossing double yellow lines (8%), using a mobile phone while driving (3%), running red lights (2%), incorrect overtaking (1%), and speeding or lack of precaution (1%).
The data is intended to serve as a diagnostic tool to guide preventive actions and future road safety awareness campaigns. The Ministry noted that some reports were discarded because they failed to meet regulatory requirements, such as the inability to identify vehicle license plates, lack of location precision, or the submission of unverifiable material. Notably, some users attempted to record footage while driving, which is contrary to the tool's design for third-party reporting.
