Mendoza’s El Carrizal Touted as ‘Santorini de Cuyo’ for Water Sports

El Carrizal reservoir, located about 60 km from the city of Mendoza in the provinces of Luján de Cuyo and Rivadavia, has become known as the “Santorini de Cuyo.” The large water mirror, framed by mountains and white‑blue architecture, evokes the Mediterranean island and draws visitors seeking a distinctive landscape.

The site supports a range of water‑sports—including windsurf, kitesurf, sailing, kayaking, stand‑up paddle, motor‑boat rides and sport fishing—as well as beaches, green areas for picnics, hiking trails, bird‑watching and scenic viewpoints. Easy access via National Route 40 and Provincial Route 16, combined with nearby vineyards, makes El Carrizal a popular weekend escape, especially for the upcoming long weekend around 17 August.
