Menelaos Menelau asserts federation is the only solution for Cyprus

Greek Cypriot negotiator Menelaos Menelau has criticized Turkey and the Turkish Cypriot side, alleging they are intentionally slowing and obstructing the peace process, even on low-level political issues.

Menelau stated that while Ankara insists on a solution based on two separate states, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has signaled that no solution model exists other than the one currently on the table. He emphasized that efforts remain focused on restarting negotiations within the previously agreed-upon federal framework.

Regarding border management, Menelau noted that the Greek Cypriot side has accepted the UN Secretary-General’s proposal for the simultaneous opening of the Athienu-Eylence-Mias Milias crossing points. He added that UN special experts are currently working to build consensus to prepare for an expanded meeting aimed at resuming negotiations, with the ultimate strategic goal of reunifying the island through a comprehensive solution.
