Menemen hosts 5th International Pottery Festival with 45 countries

The 5th International Menemen Pottery Festival in Izmir, Turkey, has concluded its three-day program, featuring participants from 45 different countries. Organized by the Menemen Municipality, the event included the ‘Hünerli Eller’ pottery competition, various workshops, and the Hemhal Table Conceptual Ceramic Competition.

A notable environmental initiative titled ‘Do good, throw into the sea’ was held during the festival. Led by Dr. Can Özcan, Raul Perreira Pinto, and Adromachi Lykartsi, participants created specialized pottery designed to serve as nesting and hiding spots for marine life. These pieces will be fired and released into the sea to support local biodiversity.

Cultural performances and concerts were central to the festivities, featuring artists such as Nil Karaibrahimgil and Edis. Menemen Mayor Aydın Pehlivan highlighted the festival's growth from 18 participating countries in 2022 to 45 this year, stating that Menemen has become a respected international center for pottery.
