Mengen double homicide: Suspect at large after land dispute

Authorities in the Mengen district of Bolu are conducting a continuous 14-day manhunt for Ramazan Ç., a suspect accused of killing two relatives during a land dispute.

The incident occurred on August 13 in the Hürriyet neighborhood of Gökçesu. According to reports, a verbal argument escalated into a physical fight when relatives, Tayfun Sönmez and his father Tahsin Sönmez, attempted to enclose a small portion of a shared plot of land with wire fencing. The dispute was reportedly rooted in a pre-existing disagreement over land ownership.

During the confrontation, Ramazan Ç. allegedly retrieved a shotgun from his home and opened fire. Emergency services arrived at the scene to find both Tayfun and Tahsin Sönmez deceased. Following an investigation by the public prosecutor, the bodies were moved to a hospital morgue. Gendarmerie teams continue to search for the suspect, who fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
