Menidi: Man arrested for premeditated murder of 89-year-old mother

Police in Menidi have arrested a 62-year-old man for the premeditated murder of his 89-year-old mother. The victim was found unresponsive in her home onouliou Street by her 69-year-old nephew in the early hours of Monday, October 12.

A forensic examination determined the cause of death was asphyxiation. The medical examiner identified bruises on the victim's face and neck, as well as defensive wounds on her hands, suggesting she struggled against her attacker. While the suspect claimed burglars entered the home, authorities are treating his account with skepticism due to inconsistencies regarding the timeline of events.

Investigators noted an eight-hour gap between the estimated time of death, around 6:00 PM on Sunday, and the suspect's call for emergency services at approximately 2:00 AM on Monday. Neighbors have reported a history of abuse, alleging the man would strike the elderly woman for money and force her to accompany him to drug-related locations. The suspect, who reportedly suffers from mental health issues and a history of drug use, has also lost his sight due to a previous traffic accident.
