Meninas Olímpicas project expands to Liceu Carlos Chagas
The Meninas Olímpicas project, led by the Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA), has expanded to the Liceu Municipal Carlos Chagas Filho. This initiative aims to increase the participation of girls in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.
Since its creation in 2019, the program has utilized weekly workshops, practical activities, and technical visits to prepare students for mathematics, computing, and robotics tournaments. The project bridges basic education and higher education by involving university students from institutions such as UERJ, UNIRIO, UFRJ, UFRRJ, and UFF, who provide academic guidance and mentorship.
In addition to student engagement, the program provides training for mathematics teachers to implement pedagogical practices that promote gender equity. IMPA also funds scientific initiation scholarships for undergraduate students in STEM fields to support the initiative.
