Menno Geelen joins European Football Clubs board
Menno Geelen, the general director of Ajax, has been appointed to the board of the European Football Clubs (EFC), formerly known as the European Club Association (ECA). Geelen was officially elected during a meeting in Copenhagen, succeeding Dennis te Kloese, who vacated the position following his departure from Feyenoord.
The EFC serves as the primary interest group for over 800 professional clubs across 55 European countries and acts as the official representative for clubs to UEFA and FIFA. Geelen, who also serves on the UEFA Club Competitions Committee, intends to focus on talent development, the growth of women's football, competition formats, and financial sustainability.
Geelen noted that his appointment received unanimous support from the KNVB, the Eredivisie, and the Dutch clubs participating in UEFA competitions this season, highlighting a sense of unity within Dutch football. His role involves strategic oversight regarding competition structures, revenue distribution, and access criteria for European club competitions.
