Mennonite community seeks removal of local judge in Campeche

Legal representatives for the Mennonite community in Campeche are launching a judicial counteroffensive to remove a local judge and the Public Ministry from an ongoing case. The move follows the suspension of a scheduled hearing due to the lack of a qualified interpreter.

The defense plans to file an injunction (amparo) and administrative appeals to prevent state authorities from intervening in a process that they argue falls exclusively under federal jurisdiction. This argument is based on statements from the complainant, Luis Uitz Villarreal, who acknowledged that the property dispute involves national lands.

Eraclio Rodríguez Gómez, leader of the Frente Nacional para el Rescate del Campo Mexicano, confirmed that the group will seek an immediate review of the Public Ministry and the judge's actions. The legal team contends that because the dispute involves federal property, the investigation should have been initiated by a Federal Public Ministry and handled by a federal judge to avoid the proceedings being declared null and void.
