Menopause awareness and symptom management in Poland
Menopause is a natural biological stage characterized by the gradual decline of ovarian function and estrogen production. While often associated with hot flashes, the transition can impact sleep, mood, concentration, and overall daily functioning.
Data from the ‘Dobry klimat wokół menopauzy’ study, commissioned by Bayer, indicates that while many Polish women recognize certain symptoms, there is a significant need for reliable information regarding their causes and mitigation methods. Symptoms reported by respondents include mood swings (68%), night sweats (62%), weight gain (60%), nervousness (53%), sleep disturbances (49%), and fatigue (47%).
Medical menopause is defined by 12 consecutive months without menstruation. However, perimenopausal symptoms can emerge much earlier through irregular bleeding. Because over half of the women surveyed believe these symptoms can be easily confused with other factors like physical exertion, medical consultation with a gynecologist is recommended to identify causes and explore relief options.
