Menopause Health Gaps Exposed in US Survey, Global Market Surge and Online Symptom Study
A national survey of 1,206 US voters found only 31 % believe the healthcare system meets women’s needs, with especially low ratings for care before, during and after menopause (41 % rated it poor or very poor). Respondents highlighted inadequate attention to rural patients, lower‑income women and postpartum support, and called for policy action on cancer screening, prenatal care and cardiovascular services.
The global menopause market, serving an estimated 1.2 billion women projected to be menopausal by 2030, is valued in the tens of billions of dollars and is rapidly expanding. Analysts warn that commercial interests can blur the line between empowering women and exploiting them, with marketing often promoting unproven products and costly hormone panels.
Research comparing more than 2 million electronic health records with the top 999 Reddit posts on menopause found emotional and cognitive symptoms—such as memory lapses and anxiety—were discussed 3‑4 times more often online than documented in clinical notes. Physical symptoms like hot flashes appeared similarly in both sources. The study underscores the need for clinicians to capture the full spectrum of menopause experiences.
