Menopause involves brain restructuring rather than decline
New research indicates that menopause is not merely a decline in reproductive capability but a period of neurological restructuring. While many women experience “brain fog”—characterized by memory lapses, difficulty finding words, and decreased concentration—experts suggest these symptoms are temporary.
During perimenopause and postmenopause, fluctuating hormone levels, particularly the decrease in estrogen (including estradiol, estrone, and estriol), affect brain function. However, the brain undergoes a process of adaptation to learn how to operate under these new hormonal conditions, rather than suffering a permanent loss of cognitive abilities.
