Menopause symptoms impact women's career progression and workplace retention
Research indicates that menopause symptoms significantly impact women's professional lives, affecting confidence, career progression, and retention. A study by the UK-based Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) involving 2,185 women aged 40 to 60 found that 27 percent of those experiencing symptoms believe it has negatively affected their professional advancement. Furthermore, 67 percent reported a predominantly negative impact on their work, while 17 percent considered leaving their jobs due to a lack of support.
Beyond hot flashes, menopause involves a range of symptoms that are often misattributed to stress or aging. These include persistent fatigue, sleep disturbances, joint pain, memory issues—often described as ‘brain fog’—and sudden mood changes such as anxiety or irritability. These physiological and cognitive changes can disrupt daily functioning and professional performance, highlighting a need for better workplace awareness and support.
