Men's health requires holistic approach beyond prostate care

Medical experts are emphasizing a holistic approach to men's health for those aged 40 to 50, noting that urinary, hormonal, and sexual health issues are often interconnected rather than isolated to the prostate.

A survey by the Brazilian Society of Urology (SBU) involving 1,500 participants found that 46% of men over 40 only seek medical attention once symptoms appear. Additionally, 58% of respondents identified prostate cancer as their primary health concern. This follows projections from The Lancet Commission, which estimates a global doubling of prostate cancer cases to 2.9 million, with deaths increasing by 85% to nearly 700,000 by 2040.

Specialists, including those from Grupo Quirónsalud, suggest that effective prevention must consider metabolic factors such as blood pressure, glucose levels, cholesterol, weight, and sleep quality. Because sexual function is closely linked to cardiovascular health, addressing lifestyle habits and metabolic changes during this age bracket can significantly impact long-term health outcomes.
