Men's urological health and prostate cancer management
Urological health for men involves various stages of care, ranging from adolescent development to managing age-related conditions. According to urologist Pedro Bastos, adolescent care focuses on identifying issues such as phimosis, varicocele, and testicular asymmetries, while also addressing STI prevention and vaccinations. In the 20s and 30s, focus shifts toward reproductive health, fertility investigations, and monitoring metabolic factors like blood pressure and glucose levels.
Regarding prostate cancer, which is the most common cancer among Brazilian men, experts emphasize that a diagnosis does not inevitably lead to impotence or urinary incontinence. The National Cancer Institute (INCA) estimates that Brazil will see between 77,920 new cases annually from 2026 to 2028. Urologist Ricardo Brandina notes that advancements in robotic surgery allow for more precise procedures aimed at curing the cancer while preserving the nerves essential for sexual function and urinary control.
