Menstrual health: Nutritional management and shifting social perspectives

Discussions regarding menstrual health are evolving from social taboos toward a focus on nutritional management and open communication. Experts suggest that 'cycle syncing'—adjusting diet to match the four phases of the menstrual cycle—can help mitigate symptoms such as fatigue, cramps, and mood swings.

During the menstrual phase, a sharp drop in estrogen and progesterone occurs, making nutrient intake critical. Because menstruation leads to the loss of blood, it also results in the loss of essential minerals like iron and zinc. Sources suggest that consuming beef, liver, eggs, or plant-based alternatives like lentils and tofu can help combat fatigue and exhaustion caused by iron deficiency.

Socially, the perception of menstruation is shifting across generations. While older generations often experienced the onset of menstruation as a taboo subject requiring secrecy, younger generations are increasingly comfortable discussing menstrual products and symptoms openly, even involving male partners in the normalization of purchasing menstrual hygiene items.
