Mensur Šaljaj demands investigation into demolition of Roma family property

Mensur Šaljaj, President of the Roma Council of Montenegro and a member of the Podgorica City Assembly, has called for an urgent investigation into the demolition of a property belonging to the Šaljaj family in Vrelima Ribničkim.

Šaljaj is demanding that Podgorica Mayor Saša Mujović and the head of the Communal Police, Radenko Radenović, provide a clear explanation regarding the legal basis for the demolition. He questioned who authorized the action and whether the family was provided with the legally required notice and timeframe to remove the structure.

A primary concern raised is that the family reportedly holds a valid lease agreement with the capital city and has consistently met its financial obligations. Šaljaj has raised concerns regarding potential discrimination, questioning whether the family's Roma identity influenced the authorities' actions and calling for transparency to ensure all citizens are treated equally regardless of ethnicity.
