Menswear trends shift toward tailoring and versatile luxury
The landscape of men’s fashion is undergoing a shift toward complexity and versatility. According to Andrew Groves, director of the Westminster Menswear Archive, menswear is moving away from a decade defined by image-centric trends, such as specific sneaker drops and social media posts, toward a “knowledge economy” centered on tailoring.
Groves suggests that the resurgence of interest in suits and formalwear is driven by a desire to engage with intricate systems of proportion, construction, and cloth. This shift emphasizes qualities that are difficult to capture on screen, such as the drape of a shoulder or the tactile behavior of fabric, favoring personal expertise and relationships with tailors over digital visibility.
Simultaneously, the concept of the investment wardrobe is evolving. While traditional luxury focused on formal attire, premium sneakers are increasingly viewed as versatile staples. As professional environments become more flexible, high-quality footwear is being integrated into a wider range of outfits, including tailored trousers and contemporary suiting, allowing for a more adaptable approach to luxury dressing.
