Mental Cruelty releases new album Echoes of a Forlorn Land

German extreme metal band Mental Cruelty has released their new album, Echoes of a Forlorn Land, via Century Media Records. The release marks a musical evolution for the Southern German outfit, expanding their deathcore roots to incorporate elements of blackened deathcore, melodic death metal, Nordic folk influences, and cinematic orchestration.

Inspired by Norse mythology and ancient folklore, the album explores themes of legendary battles and forgotten kingdoms. Vocalist Lukas Nicolai described the project as their most ambitious work to date, designed to take listeners on an epic journey. The track “Cry of Batariel” serves as a tribute to the band Children of Bodom, blending fast, vicious musicality with a narrative centered on a fallen angel.

Critics have noted the album's balance of atmosphere and melody alongside its characteristic brutality, highlighting tracks such as “Weltennacht,” “The Serpent of Midgard,” and “Frost” for their varied tempos and layered compositions.
