Mental health and ADHD challenges in adult life and work

Mental health and neurodevelopmental conditions like ADHD significantly impact daily functioning and professional life. For adults, ADHD often manifests as difficulties with attention management, organization, and impulse control rather than stereotypical hyperactivity. These challenges can lead to issues with task initiation, time management, and maintaining focus during long meetings or repetitive tasks.

General mental well-being is defined by the World Health Organization as a state of wellness where individuals can manage stress and maintain satisfying relationships. Maintaining mental health involves several key practices, including securing 7–9 hours of sleep, engaging in regular physical activity, and practicing mindfulness. Factors such as chronic stress, lack of work-life balance, and sleep deprivation are major contributors to declining mental health and burnout.
