Mental health and safety resources for college students

College students face significant academic, financial, and social pressures that can contribute to anxiety and depression. Therapy can assist students in managing these stressors, such as exam deadlines, housing costs, and relationship conflicts, by providing coping tools and routines to support mental health.

Regarding physical safety, substance use remains a pervasive issue on campuses. To mitigate the risks of drug or alcohol-related medical emergencies, Washington’s Good Samaritan laws protect both the caller and the victim from charges when reporting an emergency. Additionally, Washington State University policy declines formal discipline when emergency services are contacted. Narcan, used to temporarily reverse opioid overdoses, is available at several campus area desks, including Northside, Gannon-Goldsworthy, Stephenson, and McCroskey.
