Mental health and substance abuse gain focus in Argentina and Dominican Republic

Mental health and substance abuse are becoming central topics of discussion in Argentina and the Dominican Republic. In Argentina, psychologist Mariana Gómez highlighted that the increased demand for assistance reflects a growing societal openness to discussing dependencies rather than a worsening of the situation. She emphasized the necessity of strengthening social support networks, noting that a lack of community and family resources is a primary risk factor. Gómez also warned of the severe emotional and physical exhaustion faced by caregivers and advocated for psychoeducation in schools to prevent isolation.

In the Dominican Republic, the program RD Debate, an initiative of the Council for Economic and Social Development (Codessd), announced a special edition dedicated to mental health. The upcoming broadcast will feature six specialists, including psychiatrists and trauma experts, to address topics requested by the public. The panel aims to provide a pluralistic space for discussing mental health challenges within the Dominican society.
