Mental health awareness initiatives launched in Germany and Austria

Mental health awareness initiatives are being highlighted across Europe. In the Mettmann district of Germany, the Community Psychiatric Association (GPV) is hosting various events as part of the Mental Health Week, which runs from October 10 to 20. Activities include information stands in Ratingen, a meeting market in Velbert, and lectures on depression in Mettmann to provide information and support services.

In Lower Austria, authorities are focusing on suicide prevention and psychosocial health. Marking the World Day for Mental Health on October 10, the region is participating in the ‘Yellow September’ campaign, which this year emphasizes loneliness under the motto ‘Together we can do more’. To raise visibility, landmarks such as the Klangturm and towers at the Tulln University Hospital are being illuminated in yellow. Officials emphasized the importance of destigmatizing mental health crises and encouraging open dialogue to ensure people know help is available.
