Mental health awareness week launches in Flanders
In Flanders, the 10-day Mental Health Week is taking place from October 1 to October 10, 2026, coinciding with World Mental Health Day. The initiative focuses on mental well-being and addressing psychological issues.
In Sint-Truiden, the city and Zorggroep Myna have launched an interactive exhibition titled ‘Over de drempel’ (Over the Threshold). The exhibition uses signage placed in the city hall and various shopping streets to make the barriers to mental healthcare for the elderly more visible and discussable.
Mayor Ludwig Vandenhove emphasized that while Sint-Truiden is a dedicated care city, a taboo still surrounds psychological vulnerability, particularly among older populations. He called for increased tolerance toward individuals with mental health challenges, noting that social acceptance has declined compared to previous decades.
