Mental health becomes a central focus for policy and academic discourse

In Uruguay, there is a growing critique that mental health has become a political slogan rather than a functional public policy. While the topic is frequently mentioned in political discourse, many citizens face long waiting lists and fragmented care. Experts emphasize the need to distinguish between normal emotional responses to life circumstances and clinical disorders to avoid both over-pathologizing human experience and minimizing serious conditions.

In Mexico, the Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez (UACJ) has established mental health as the central theme for its fourth Social Work Conference. Rector Daniel Alberto Constandse Cortez highlighted the university's commitment to psychological well-being through the General Directorate of University Well-being. This department focuses on prevention, psychological care, and programs incorporating gender perspectives and human rights to support the academic community.
