Mental health becomes a key factor for employee retention in Mexico

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 15% of working-age adults live with a mental disorder. In Mexico, psychosocial risks such as inflexible or extended workdays, difficulties balancing personal and professional life, and poor physical working conditions are significant concerns.

A study titled ‘La experiencia laboral 2026 en México’, conducted by WeWork and Michael Page, reveals that 15.6% of professionals consider mental wellbeing benefits to be indispensable for remaining with a company. This shift indicates that salary and economic benefits are no longer the sole factors influencing talent retention.

The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) has identified factors such as vehicular traffic during commutes as contributors to occupational stress, which can manifest as fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and sleep problems. Additionally, different generations—including Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z—increasingly value office environments that support emotional health and personal needs.
