Mental health challenges face youth in Liechtenstein and Germany

In Liechtenstein, a public discussion in Eschen highlighted the multifaceted nature of mental health issues among young people. Organized by the SonnenStern association, the event featured experts who noted that while social media is a factor, other significant stressors include academic pressure, family burdens, and career anxieties. Participants emphasized the need for timely support systems to assist youth facing psychological distress.

In Germany, the BKK-Dachverband released an impulse paper titled ‘Gesund. Gelassen. Gebildet.’, warning of significant health deficits among minors. The report indicates that 20 percent of minors exhibit psychological abnormalities, 15 percent are overweight, and one in four children demonstrates problematic media usage. The association is calling for health to be integrated as a fundamental pillar of the educational mandate to better support children facing stress, anxiety, and loneliness.
