Mental health challenges rise among Gen Z and students in India and the US
Mental health challenges are rising among young populations in India and the United States, particularly within student and Gen Z demographics.
In India, estimates suggest nearly 70% of students experience moderate to high anxiety, with 60% showing signs of depression. Experts attribute these trends to intense academic competition, professional pressures, and the influence of social media. While awareness is growing, significant barriers to care remain, including high therapy costs and a lack of professional services in smaller towns.
In the United States, data from the Healthy Minds Survey indicates that 37% of college students reported depression symptoms and 32% experienced anxiety. To combat this, states like New Jersey and Georgia have implemented statewide partnerships with UWill to provide free online counseling to students at various higher education institutions. New Jersey’s initiative has facilitated over 110,000 therapy sessions for nearly 24,000 students since its implementation.
