Mental Health Classic hockey tournament sees record turnout in Saskatoon

The third annual Mental Health Classic youth hockey tournament in Saskatoon achieved record attendance, with 230 athletes participating in the sold-out event. Held at Merlis Belsher Place, the two-day tournament combined relaxed hockey scrimmages with a focus on mental wellness education.

Co-organizers D Jay McGrath and Mitch Berg designed the event to encourage young players to express their feelings and build confidence. The tournament featured various mental health workshops and guest speakers. Former NHL player and mental health advocate Sheldon Kennedy delivered the keynote address, sharing his personal experiences with abuse, trauma, and addiction to help participants understand recovery tools.
