Mental health crises lead to tragic incidents in Venezuela and Peru

In Venezuela, a 45-year-old woman, Mercedes del Carmen Hernández Gómez, died by suicide in the Mide sector of Urumaco. Authorities reported that the woman suffered from severe depression and bipolar disorder, which contributed to the incident. Her body was found in her residence, and security forces have initiated legal proceedings following the discovery.

In Peru, a 27-year-old woman in Junín is under investigation after allegedly poisoning her two children, aged 9 and 1, with insecticide. The mother reportedly mixed the substance into a drink and then contacted her partner and family, asking them to save the children. The children were treated at a health center in Chupaca and subsequently transferred to El Carmen Hospital in Huancayo, where they were successfully stabilized. The mother's actions are believed to have been driven by incurable illness and significant debt.
