Mental health experts discuss the importance of seeking psychological support

Mental health and wellness specialists suggest that seeking help from others is not a sign of weakness, but rather a strategy that can strengthen personal independence and emotional well-being. In societies that prioritize radical self-sufficiency, individuals often feel compelled to face difficulties alone; however, experts note that utilizing a support network can provide clarity and better decision-making outcomes.

Research highlights specific challenges in seeking help, particularly among men. Psychological studies indicate that men often delay professional consultation due to socialized beliefs that equating vulnerability with weakness. This reluctance is reflected in global statistics; the World Health Organization reported approximately 727,000 suicides worldwide in 2021, with the male rate being more than double that of women. In Spain, provisional 2024 data from the INE recorded 3,846 suicides, of which 2,834 were men.

Experts emphasize that true autonomy involves recognizing when to consult experienced individuals to avoid rushed decisions caused by mental or physical exhaustion. Seeking support is viewed as a temporary tool to alleviate burdens and restore balance, rather than a systematic delegation of responsibilities.
