Mental health experts warn of rising intrafamily abuse
Mental health specialists are warning about the high prevalence of physical, psychological, and sexual abuse occurring within families. Psychologist Alejandro Schujman noted that such violence is frequently committed by close attachment figures, such as parents, grandparents, or uncles.
Schujman emphasized that these situations often create pacts of silence driven by fear and guilt, which can lead to long-term emotional damage. He warned that children often express trauma through silence, withdrawal, sadness, or a loss of interest in play. Addressing these emotional manifestations is critical for timely intervention before the damage becomes irreversible.
