Mental health impacts highlighted through financial fraud and dietary research

In observance of World Mental Health Day, recent reports highlight different factors impacting psychological well-being. In Peru, a study by Experian Perú titled ‘From fraud to digital confidence’ reveals that 66% of Peruvians identify fraud as a cause of stress or anxiety, while 87% cite financial loss as a primary consequence. The emotional impact is significant across age groups, affecting 67% of those aged 18–24 and 70% of those aged 55–64.

In Spain, scientific interest is growing regarding the potential of the ketogenic diet to mitigate symptoms of certain mental health issues by altering brain energy metabolism. However, experts from the Spanish Society of Psychiatry and Mental Health (Sepsm) and the Spanish Society of Endocrinology and Nutrition (SEEN) warn that dietary changes cannot serve as a standalone treatment for serious conditions like depression, schizophrenia, or bipolar disorder. They emphasize that nutrition should only be considered a complementary factor within a broader lifestyle and medical treatment framework.
