Mental health initiatives addressed in Almería and La Matanza
In Almería, Spain, the ‘Foro Mujer y Sociedad’ mentoring program for women with disabilities concluded at the Provincial Council. The event included a diploma ceremony and a lecture on mental health delivered by psychiatrist Marisol Roncero. Lorena Nieto Martínez, the delegate for Equality and Family, emphasized continued support for such formative initiatives, while Rosario Ruiz, president of Foro Mujer Sociedad, described mentoring as a “human accompaniment” designed to foster leadership and integral growth.
In La Matanza, Argentina, mental health professionals are addressing a significant rise in suicide rates through community-based approaches. Carolina Wajnerman, a member of the Mental Health Network of the Public Health Secretariat of La Matanza, highlighted the importance of intersectorial work and community involvement. The local strategy focuses on both prevention and “postvention,” which involves providing community support following such incidents to address the complexity of these social issues.
