Mental health initiatives launch amid rising suicide rates

The Royal Foundation has launched the ‘On Your Side’ initiative in Liverpool to address mental health crises within sporting environments. Supported by figures such as Prince William, Princess Kate, and Harry Kane, the program aims to identify early warning signs of psychological distress among athletes, teams, and fans. Rather than relying solely on medical systems, the initiative focuses on training and communication patterns to encourage timely support.

In Germany, mental health experts are calling for increased prevention efforts amid high suicide rates. Data from the Federal Statistical Office indicates over 10,000 suicides and approximately 100,000 attempts annually in the country. Statistics show a death occurs every 53 minutes, with men being three times more likely to be affected than women.

Demographic data highlights specific vulnerabilities: suicide is the second leading cause of death for those aged 15 to 24, while individuals aged 65 and older account for over 40 percent of registered cases. Additionally, studies indicate significant mental health challenges in vocational training, where over 60 percent of apprentices reported psychological issues.
