Mental health initiatives launched for students in Chile and Mexico

Mental health initiatives are being implemented in different educational contexts to provide early detection and emotional support. In Maullín, Chile, the Mental Health Program has introduced an Emotional Wellbeing Screening tool. This preventive measure aims to identify early warning signs in children and adolescents through coordination between schools and health teams. The process requires informed consent from parents and guardians to allow students to access professional evaluation or intervention if needed.

In Mexico, the Mental Health Program for the Faculty of Medicine (PROSAM) has launched a “Psychological First Aid” workshop for university students. Led by Dr. Diego Armando Coronel Manzo, the training focuses on teaching medical students how to provide emotional containment and empathetic listening during crises. The program emphasizes creating safe spaces for validation rather than offering immediate solutions, aiming to help students manage emotional distress without overstepping professional boundaries.
