Mental health reform initiatives discussed in Mexico and Argentina

In Mexico, Deputy Dulcelina Sánchez de Lira has proposed reforms to the Organic Law of the Free Municipality and the Mental Health Law of San Luis Potosí. The initiative aims to transition municipal mental health services from a basic psychological assistance model to a comprehensive medical model. The proposal seeks to mandate agreements between municipalities and the Secretary of Health to ensure the assignment and training of specialized psychiatric personnel, as well as the permanent supply of psychiatric medications.

In Argentina, specialists gathered at the Colegio de Abogados de Córdoba to debate the practical and legal implications of proposed changes to the National Mental Health Law. The discussions focused on professional responsibilities during crisis situations, the protection of patient autonomy, and the coordination between the healthcare system and the judiciary to ensure rights are upheld during medical interventions.
