Mental health support initiatives expand in Austria

Healthcare initiatives in Austria are increasingly focusing on mental health and social integration to address issues like loneliness, stress, and depression. In Lower Austria, the “social prescribing” model is being implemented at six locations, including the St. Pölten Nord Primary Care Center. This approach, supported by the Ministry of Health, connects patients with social and health-promoting activities—such as group exercises, cooking classes, or social clubs—rather than relying solely on medical treatments.

In Carinthia, the organization Pro Mente reports a rising demand for psychological services across its 50 locations, particularly among children and adolescents facing depression, concentration difficulties, and learning challenges. To raise awareness, Pro Mente has launched campaigns including a “Mental Health Run” and an interactive exhibition in Villach designed to simulate the experience of living with depression or schizophrenia.
