Menzies Aviation trials AI cargo technology at Heathrow
Menzies Aviation has launched a proof-of-concept trial of AI-powered cargo measurement and build-up technology at London’s Heathrow Airport. In partnership with computer vision specialist CIND, the trial aims to enhance data quality, operational efficiency, and decision-making throughout the cargo handling process.
The first phase involves implementing CIND’s Dimensioner In-Motion, which automatically measures cargo—including pallet size, weight, and stackability—as it moves through the warehouse without requiring freight to stop. Additionally, the company is piloting ContourCheck during Unit Load Device (ULD) build-up. This system creates real-time visual models to ensure cargo matches approved aircraft contours, helping to prevent overhang issues and improve space utilization.
The deployment is intended to evaluate the potential for broader adoption across Menzies Aviation’s global cargo network.
