Meon Human Rights Organization hosts workshop on child recruitment in Yemen

The Meon Human Rights Organization held a workshop and photographic exhibition in Aden to address the protection of children from recruitment and use in Yemen’s armed conflicts. The event was held under the auspices of the Minister of Human Rights and included participation from government officials, international organizations, and human rights advocates.

During the workshop, Minister of Human Rights Mishdal Mohammed Omar emphasized that child recruitment is one of the most severe violations facing children in Yemen, noting that it may constitute a war crime under international law. He highlighted that the impact extends beyond the immediate removal of a child from combat, requiring long-term psychological and social rehabilitation.

Minister of Legal Affairs Ishraq al-Maqtari also spoke on the crisis, noting that many children are forced to abandon education for the front lines due to economic necessity. The workshop aimed to draw international attention to the increasing violations, including documented reports of child soldiers within Houthi forces.
