Meppen breaks ground on 22-million-euro fire station

The city of Meppen has officially broken ground on a new fire station at Schützenhof. The project represents an investment of approximately 22 million euros to replace a facility dating back to the 1970s.

Spanning nearly 15,000 square meters, the new facility will include a main building measuring 92 by 34 meters and 9 meters in height. The site is designed to accommodate 16 fire engines and features specialized areas such as a washing and preparation hall, a high-bay warehouse, and various workshops, including one for respiratory protection. The complex will also include a training tower, a practice area, and parking for 84 emergency personnel.

To ensure operational readiness during disasters, the station will be equipped with its own power generator. The building is designed with sustainability in mind, utilizing a heat pump, a green roof, and photovoltaic systems. Mayor Helmut Knurbein stated that the new construction aims to provide optimal working, training, and operational conditions for volunteer emergency responders.
