Ömer Bolat denies allegations of suspicious fund transactions

Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat has denied allegations regarding suspicious financial transactions involving investment funds. Bolat addressed claims that he withdrew 170 million lira or closed accounts prior to government investigations into several portfolio management companies.

Bolat stated that records from the Central Registry Agency (MKK) do not support these claims. He characterized the allegations as a manipulation attempt, asserting that the 170 million lira figure was reached by incorrectly aggregating various matured collections and new sukuk purchases over a 32-month period.

The Minister noted that on September 16, the government initiated investigations into seven portfolio management companies, leading to the appointment of banks to liquidate 131 different funds. Bolat clarified that his own family savings of 37.8 million lira were invested in Hedef Investment Portfolio on February 26, 2024, and that he holds no management or signature authority within the companies currently under investigation.
